Careers Curriculum 

Pupils and Parents

The careers programme at Samuel Laycock embraces Talentino at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Talentino is a bespoke careers programme that has been designed specifically for SEND schools. For more information please visit www.talentinocareers.co.uk.

In Key Stage 4 pupils will also have a careers programme that is tailored to their chosen pathway. This will include workshops, employer encounters and workplace visits.

Year 7

Module 1 – What is Work?  

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will increase their understanding of what it means to work, including the benefits and challenges involved 

Module 2 – There is a job for me 

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will increase their understanding about the different options available and be encouraged about the possibility of work.

Year 8

Module 3 – What should I choose? 

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will create an informed career goal and learn the skill of planning a route towards their career of choice. 

Module 4 – How do I get a job? 

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will learn skills to support their journey through the job application process

Year 9

Module 5 – Am I ready for Work?  

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will learn a range of vital work-related skills to support their career goal. 

Module 6 – Employability skills 

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will begin to understand their pathway to employment options and get excited about the journey and the challenges to be expected. It’s important that both the young person and their families/carers fully understand all the available options.

Year 10 

Module 1 – Communication 

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will learn about different ways of finding and sharing information 

Module 2 – My Community 

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will learn about playing an active role in their community and helping others

Year 11

Module 3 – World of Work 

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will learn more about the workplace, further education and training 

Module 4 – Career Pathways 

Long Term Objective:  Pupils will begin to understand their pathway to employment options and get excited about the journey and the challenges to be expected. It’s important that both the young person and their families/carers fully understand all the available options.
