Interventions

At Samuel Laycock full-time intervention specialists provide intensive support to meet the individual needs of our pupils.

English intervention sessions are carefully timetabled to reach a large number of pupils and to have meaningful impact on pupil attainment. Intervention specialists provide regular 1:1 sessions, lasting approximately 20 minutes, ensuring learning is tailored and targeted to meet the individual needs of each pupil. We align any tutoring provision with the requirements set out in a pupil’s education, health and care plan (EHCP).

Maths intervention sessions are delivered to pupils across years 9,10 and 11 and the pupils receive a 20 minute 1 to 1 session once a week.

Most of the intervention is based on underpinning knowledge and is bespoke for each pupil. Alongside these individual sessions, the tutor also runs a mini project based around maths and enterprise, with groups of pupils. Last year was the sunflower sale, this year we are exploring the theme which will be Christmas based.

The pupils who are aiming to sit the GCSE maths exam have additional intervention sessions to support their knowledge and understanding.
